How to read it
- Outside L x W x H: length, front to back depth, and height, measured to the outer edges of the frame.
- Floor area: length times width, the room on the bottom of the tank.
- Other makers: another maker’s size for a tank sold under the same label.
Some labels share a floor. Aqueon’s 20 Long and 29 are both 30¼ x 12½ in, and its 60 Breeder, 75 and 90 are all 48½ x 18½ in. The bigger label is a taller tank. See why gallons don’t tell you the floor size.
Aqueon says to put an aquarium on a stand made for it, one that meets all weight and safety specifications, and that its tempered-bottom aquariums can’t be drilled. Measure the space and the stand before you choose a tank.
Terrariums
Exo Terra gives width, depth and height in centimeters, with rounded inches beside them: 45 cm is about 17.7 in, printed as 18. Zoo Med and REPTI ZOO give inches. Neither Exo Terra nor Zoo Med says whether its sizes are inside or outside.
Only some terrariums carry a gallon label. REPTI ZOO calls its 18 x 18 x 24 in terrarium a 30 gallon, while Zoo Med sells the same size as its NT-4, with no gallon label.
